You do not need a referral to attend an appointment. However, if you wish to claim a Medicare rebate, you will need to see your GP to discuss whether you are eligible for a Medicare referral and a mental health treatment plan. This allows you to claim a rebate of $141.85 on up to 10 individual psychology sessions each calendar year.
If you are seeing your GP to organise a referral and mental health treatment plan, let the medical practice know as you may need to book a longer appointment.

It’s common to feel a little nervous coming to see a psychologist for the first time, but expect to feel welcome and safe and to be assured that our conversations are confidential.
Before your first session you will be asked to complete an intake form. This, along with our first session, will help us work together to identify your goals for therapy.

Sessions run for 50 minutes.

The Australian Psychological Society recommends that psychologists charge $311 for a standard consultation (2024-2025 financial year). I understand that this is beyond the means of many in the Bega Valley and my fee has been adjusted accordingly.
Session fee: $225
If you have a Medicare referral, you will receive a $141.85 rebate for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. The out-of-pocket fee will be $83.15.
If you have an Eating Disorder Treatment and Management plan, you may be eligible for up to 40 sessions per calendar year.
You can book an appointment without a referral or a rebate.
Julia Stiles Clinical Psychology does not provide bulk-billed services.

Some private health funds offer rebates for psychology sessions. Contact your provider for further information. It is important to note that you cannot claim the Medicare rebate and private health insurance for the same psychology session.

Whilst I understand that unexpected events and personal emergencies can happen, there is a high need for psychology appointments in the Bega Valley and long wait times. If an appointment is cancelled at the last minute, someone else will miss their opportunity to access help. With this in mind, my cancellation policy is strict.
If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, you must provide at least 48 hours notice to avoid an $80 cancellation fee, payable prior to your next session. No Medicare or private health insurance rebate is available for unattended sessions.
